Success Story

Business Name: Bell's Landscape Services, Inc.

Owner: Marcy Bell

Bell's Landscape Services, Inc. offers complete Award Winning landscape design, construction, maintenance services and snow plowing in the winter. The company was started back in 1978, serving Southeastern Michigan. Marcy Bell purchased the company in February of 2011. Today the facility is located in Wixom in a facility that has enough space to house their equipment and staff. Bell's Landscape Services is comprised of long term employees, who have worked in all aspects of the business. They pride themselves on their customer service, which is reflected in them having so many long-term customers.

Marcy Bell came to the Women’s Business Center interested in learning strategies to grow her business. Deb Loeser, Program Manager of the Women’s Business Center worked with Marcy to create a growth strategy. A part of this plan was to access other programs that the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council offered including Women’s Business Certification and the microloan program. Marcy did just that and received both certification and a loan. Loeser also recommend that Bell apply for the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business Detroit program. This would give Marcy the opportunity to write down the rest of her growth plan. After graduating from the program, Bell was very grateful for being encouraged to take the program. She felt that the program was one of the best things she ever did as far as business education. Part of the growth plan included offering a new line of products.

The LiveWall is designed by career horticultural professionals to grow healthy plants. From top to bottom, LiveWall’s vertical garden planters create a natural growing environment. It’s like having the feeling of spring time throughout the year. Besides looking great, there are additionally benefits, such as adding oxygen in the air. Marcy was so excited about this new product that one of her Goldman Sachs class mates hired Bell’s Landscape to install the LiveWall into his new restaurant Brome Burgers and Shakes in Dearborn, Michigan “Working with the Women’s Business Center at the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council has been well worth the time invested and the rewards have been ten-fold”, according to Marcy Bell.
