Business Name: K-Tec Systems, Inc.
Owner: Catherine Koch
In 1989, Cathy founded K-Tec Systems to use her extensive knowledge of process control and testing to service her customers. K-Tec specializes in advanced control and automation technology, and offers temperature and control instrumentation to the automotive, plastic, aerospace, food and consumer product industries.
Cathy is dedicated to continuing to grow the business and learn new strategies, even though she has been in business for over 25 years. She reached out to Deb Loeser, the Program Manager for the Women’s Business Center at the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council. They discussed challenges Cathy was experiencing after losing a large bid, getting undercut and the headaches she was running into because she was not able to get a line of credit. Loeser identified that the first place she needed to start was finding a good CPA. Cathy learned how important it was to have the right CPA and what they should be helping her to do to grow her business. Not only did Loeser recommend a CPA that could help with understanding her financials, they were instrumental is helping Cathy secure a line of credit with her bank!
Throughout 2015, Cathy Koch took advantage of numerous events provided by the Women’s Business Center. After attending the Leadership Institute for Women, Cathy now understands the value of a great team in scaling up her business to the next level.
Cathy also participated in the Annual Great Lakes Women’s Business Conference. This resulted in meaningful customer leads with tier one suppliers within the automotive industry. The most exciting opportunity that came out of the conference is an international partnership with a Canadian woman business owner. Their plans include the construction of a manufacturing plant in Michigan.
“Since I have been learning and networking at the Women’s Business Center and Great Lakes Women’s Business Council events, my business has grown above $1 million mark!” says Koch.
